Jerry Pierce Jr. To Be Inducted Into City of East Orange, NJ Hall of Fame

Washington, DC (November 19, 2017) 

Washington, DC: Jerome (Jerry) Pierce Jr., President of The Interamerica Group, will be inducted into the Inaugural Class of the city of East Orange Hall of Fame in East Orange, NJ. A gala will be held celebrating the inductees at the Cicely Tyson Community School of Performing and Fine Arts on Saturday, November 25, 2017. Other inductees of the thirty-five member inaugural class include singers Dionne Warwick, Dana Owens “Queen Latifa,” actor John Amos, Brigadier General Richard Cardillo, Colonel Clyde Richards, Mayor William S. Hart, Sr., and Judge Robert Carter. Mr. Pierce is being recognized for his distinguished business career.

 

A native of East Orange, Mr. Pierce was a legendary performer on the East Orange High School football team, where he played linebacker from 1973-1977 and was named to the first team All-State team. He later enjoyed a record-setting career as captain of the Dartmouth College football team where he remains the record holder for the most tackles in team history, according to ESPN. After college, Mr. Pierce received offers to join a number of professional NFL teams, but declined the offers in order to work as a missionary in Central America where he taught school, counceled troubled youth, and developed prison rehab programs at the region’s largest jail. Upon returning to the US,  Mr. Pierce worked in the oil and energy business at Mobil Oil. He later served President George H.W. Bush as Assistant Secretary at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and then served as Deputy Mayor of Jersey City, NJ.  Mr. Pierce is the Founder and President of The Interamerica Group, an executive level business development and government affairs company founded in 1994 with offices in Washington, D.C., Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo, Brazil. He sits on the board of directors of The Washington Media Group and of The Hispanic 100.   “Being recognized by the people who know me best is very special. I am proud to be inducted into East Orange’s inaugural Hall of Fame class”  stated Jerry Pierce.

 

The East Orange Hall of Fame recognizes the many East Orange residents who have become locally, nationally, and internationally known as leaders in many diverse areas, including the visual and performing arts, music literature, science, education, sports, business, religion, government, military, and philanthropy. Recognizing these leaders in such a distinguished and visible way brings this honor directly to the community and schools, and reinforces the message to the children of the region that they can and should strive for excellence in any area of their choosing.
